My attention span for writing has not been amazing since moving to New York and starting a new job and shopping for things like paper towels and throw blankets (no luck so far). But I’m getting the itch to start collecting and curating thoughts and images again, so here I am with a few little tidbits.
Green juice:
My favorite breakfast at the moment is skyr with frozen raspberries and peanut butter, coffee with coconut milk, and a glass of Trader Joe’s green juice. It makes me feel very Goop, very glamorous and like the pinnacle of health. The green juice contains–get ready–celery, cucumber, grapefruit, green leaf lettuce, green chard, lemon, kale, spinach, parsley, and mint tea. I also think it’s been making my skin look especially glowy, fighting with the radiator against completely drying out my skin. I drink it in a little mason jar glass, but ideally I would be drinking it from these extremely sweet Ichendorf Milano glasses. As mentioned on the Porta website, the glassware is meant to bring a delicate brilliance to everyday living. I feel like I’m almost there with the green juice, but the glasses would bring it up a notch.
Commuting music:
One of my favorite, favorite musical artists is Olivia Dean; not only do I never get tired of her songs, but I’ve found that she shares some really bright, summery music that inspires her. Every few months she’ll make an appearance on the London radio station NTS, and I’ve loved listening to the two-hour-long show while I’m commuting or working. I’ve especially loved “Alegria” by Elia e Elizabeth and “It’s Too Late to Turn Back Now” by Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose. It helps me to not feel as annoyed and ratty when my train home is delayed.
The Net-a-Porter van:
I first saw the Net-a-Porter van outside a cozy-looking brownstone right off Central Park West, and have spotted it twice since. Each time I’ve wanted to chase after it and ask if I can look inside, and then ask if I can come up with the delivery driver and see where they are delivering, and maybe can I come in and borrow an outfit? It’s such a chic vehicle–jet black, minimal lettering–and who knows what’s inside. Is it a Khaite cashmere cardigan? A Loro Piana skirt? Who knows!
A sweet little bag:
I didn’t really mean to, but I ended up going to L'Appartement 4F’s West Village location on their very first day there, dutifully stepping into a long line in the cold sun. I was starving and ended up ordering a jambon-beurre sandwich that was just a little tough–honestly, it was my fault for going to a bakery known for flaky croissants and buttery pastries on an empty stomach. But the sandwich came in what I think was the most delicately designed bag, and immediately after throwing it away I felt like I should have kept it and framed it to put in my kitchen. Next time!
Thanks for reading and more soon!
